I love remote controls! I love cameras! Therefore, I loved meeting with Troll Systems. Now all in HD, these sealed and pressurized units are built strong to hold up against any storm or fly attached to the bottom of a helicopter. The device is then controlled remotely from your office or studio to give you a spy-tech, birds-eye, top secret view of anywhere in the world. Love it.

I know some of you are sick of posts about Twitter apps – to you, I apologize. But for those of you that aren’t, you’re going to love this one: Twitula is yet another Twitter app for Windows Mobile phones. After logging in, you can view your friends timeline, send tweets and direct messages, and get your responses. This app even has an auto-refresh setting which can be turned on or off. When on, it will refresh the screen at approximately one minute intervals. To install Twitula, download this CAB file, copy it to your device, and then double-click it to install. Alternately, you can visit the Twitula homepage from your phone’s browser and download the Twitula file directly to your device.

Want To Beta Test IE8?

Recently, Allison Burnett, Program Manager for IE, posted to the IE Team Blog that they were looking for more beta testers to help them work out the kinks in the new browser. According to her post, she mentions that IE8 Beta 2 is “right around the corner" as she invites anyone interested in checking it out to become an official tester. This is a much bigger deal than beta-testing the latest Web 2.0 web app, I guarantee you. Official beta testers for IE 8 will really be helping the team get IE 8 ready for primetime. If you want to be a beta tester, just email the team at IESO@microsoft.com and tell them a little bit about yourself including why you would be a great beta tester for IE8. In addition to new features like web slices andactivities, the new IE8's most dramatic change will be the support for web standards - by default, IE8 will run in standards-compliant mode. Even if you're not an "official" beta tester, you can give Microsoft feedback by joining the IE8 Technical Beta program on Microsoft Connect. And if you just want to download the beta and check out what it can do, you can download it from here.[Click to read the full post ]

At the end of June, we told you that the Olympics were coming to Media Center. Well, now they’re here! If you haven’t already done so, you have to try out NBC Olympics On the Go on your Windows Media Center PC. This internet-driven TV service from NBC Universal is powered by TVTonic’s platform and brings you all the latest from the games in HD. Even if you don’t have a TV tuner for your Vista Home Premium or Ultimate PC, you’ll still have access to HDTV coverage from NBC, USA, and Universal TV networks for a total of 225 hours of coverage over 17 days. This includes 24 sports, the full opening ceremony, and a closing ceremony montage. What’s really cool about this service is that you can sign up to get automatic downloads of all the available coverage for any particular sport – this way, you’ll never have to miss any of your favorites. The content is downloaded and cached on your PC, so you can watch it whether you’re online or off. It even works through any Extender device! To get access to NBC Olympics On the Go, just launch Media Center launch and scroll down to the Online Media strip where you will find a link to NBC Olympics On The Go in default view. (If, for some reason, you don't have the option, you can also download it from here.)[Click to read the full post ]

60GB Xbox 360s Have Arrived

According to Xbox 360 Fanboy, Major Nelson confirmed that there’s no official release date for the new 60 GB Xbox 360 units - “they’ll just appear in the retail channels,” he noted. And they are definitely appearing. Engadget spotted them at Amazon and others have seen them appearing at various retailers like Target. Of course, the big appeal of these new units is the extra hard drive space. Why is that important? Well, it’s certainly valuable if you’re thinking of signing up for the new Netflix powered movie download service. Revealed just last month at E3, the partnership with Netflix gives Xbox LIVE Gold members who are also Netflix subscribers the ability to instantly stream movies and TV episodes from Netflix. The extra hard disk space will definitely be an advantage for anyone who plans to make heavy use of that service.

Have You Seen The New Live.com?

In case you hadn’t noticed, the homepage at Live.com recently got a refresh. The new homepage now features a scenic background (see image at left for an example) which includes areas called “hotspots.” These hotspots are interactive, hyperlinked parts of the image that help you to explore searches that relate to the area of the image that they are linked to. The hotspots are obviously just a clever way to get people to come check out the page at live.com while also pointing them to the various types of search that Live Search can do (like image search, health searches, video search, etc). It’s kind of crazy, but it’s also kind of clever. Similar to Ask.com’s skins, the backgrounds at Live.com deliver “the pretty,” but its really the interactivity that’s drawing the curious visitors who come to check it out. Well, at least it’s different. Along with other unique programs, like the innovative Cashback offering where you can get paid to surf (linked from the live.com homepage), the new Live.com is just one more example of how the Live Search team is thinking up ways to engage new users.[Click to read the full post ]

Who needs DVR when you can watch the 2008 Summer Olympics Live at NBCOlympics.com.  With over 2200 hours of live Olympic footage and more feature and profile pieces than you know what to do with...it's the place to be this summer.  Using Silverlight 2.0 you can watch up to four live events at one time.  I recruited Ex-BMX racer Eric Schmidt to give us a walk-thru of this superb user experience.

Mobipocker – A Free eBook Reader for Mobile Phones

You don’t have to have a Kindle in order to read eBooks when you’re on the go – all you really need is a mobile phone and some downloadable software. A good one to try is Mobipocket, a free eBook reader that works on Windows Mobile phones as well as on other smartphones like the Blackberry or Symbian devices. With the software installed, you can then build, organize, read, and annotate your entire eBook library. There’s also a desktop version of the software available that works as a combo eBook reader and RSS reader. In the desktop version, you can subscribe to the RSS feeds of various online news magazines and papers like PC Mag, TIME, BBC News, USA Today, and others, so you’ll always have something else to read besides just your eBooks. Unfortunately, it doesn’t appear you can add your own feeds, which is a drawback, but their are 250,000 free feeds to choose from, so at least you have a good selection. Of course, eBook software just wouldn’t be complete if they didn’t offer you an easy way to download new eBooks, too, so Mobipocket integrates an eBookstore right within their application. From the store, you can find new eBooks to purchase as well as download free eBooks and samples. There’s even a virtual bookshelf where you can store your collection. If you want to try this software yourself, the download is available here.

For users of MSN Direct-Enabled GPS devices, like those made by Garmin and Alpine Electronics Inc., sending directions from your PC to your car is possible with the latest release of the MSN Direct API. This new functionality has now been integrated into Live Maps, too. Many people still use a PC to find directions on the internet when they’re planning a trip, but would then have to re-enter those directions into their car’s GPS or make a printout to take with them. But now, using Windows Live Maps, you can find your route and save it as a Collection. Then, from the “Actions” menu, just choose “Send To GPS” to have the map sent to your GPS device in your vehicle.[Click to read the full post ]

Live Labs Shadow Box on the Surface

Now this is cool. Jeff Weir and John Lynn work in the Microsoft Live Labs team (that's the group that created Photosynth). They also have a couple of Surface units in their office. So the two of them came up with an idea to build a little application called Shadow Box (or unofficially "nightmare box") that 'burns' in and out images of what the infrared camera inside the surface sees. The end result is both awesome and spooky! Check out the video of Shadow Box in action.
