Louis Castle, co-founder of Westwood Studios and now Vice President of Creative Development at EA LA, was here in Redmond for a community site leader conference and Laura managed to sneak past the velvet ropes and corner him for this interview. Lord of the Rings: Battle for Middle Earth 2 (doesn't that just roll off your tongue?) could be the RTS for all you RTS haters.

Sweet game. Love RTS games, love LOTR... This will be a must buy!
It actually looks badass....I like the simplicity.
It does look really cool and I am not really big into RTS games either!  I do like the LOTR fiction and the gamplay looks amazing.  These two elements should make for a very cinematic experience.
We have more footage from the game that we're working on putting up.  Definitely a cool looking game, maybe one of the first non-mmo games for me to enjoy/obsess about in a while.
I was there at the event.  It is definetly a cool and fun game.
Wow. I've not played a good RTS since StarCraft. What absolute FUN that game was. [not that i'm saying all the newer ones are horrible....i just haven't played ANY of them] After seeing this, I'm in awe. It looks fantastic! Can't wait for the extra footage!
Great interview Laura!

(and thanks for not trashing my office <g>)
It really is alot of fun.  The most fun (in my opinion) was the multiplayer.

Like Louis said, the controls are fairly easy to pick up...but, how good you want to be is how much time you spend learning the controls.

This game looks like it will be outstanding!  I just got a 360 for Fathers Day and I'm blown-away by how good this console is.  XBox Live is great!  The graphics of games like Kameo, Oblivion, Ghost Recon (GRAW) are amazing.  I have all major consoles and this one is truly next-gen.  Sony is in trouble.

It sounds like they are on the right track with this RTS.  Most of the interviews I've seen are about how they are thinking about the controls for an RTS on a console.  This is not just a port of the PC game and that's huge.

July 7 is official retail date I believe.
