Admit it, we've all secretly wanted a robot clone of ourselves. Or, maybe a little robot sibling like on that show Small Wonder. Well, the reality is that we are not too far from all that happening. This father / daughter team, whose company is named Xian Chaoren,  has created the most lifelike robot I've seen to date. They actually won Time Magazines Robot of the Year in 2006. They have taken on Bill Gates prediction and hope  to have a robot in every home in the near future. In fact, check back tomorrow for a personal invitation from the Robot creators to Bill Gates himself...

So the company is from China? I thought it was only Japan who was this advanced in robotechnology.

That is totally awesome - The kind of thing you expect to see in Stan Winston's workshop for movies or Disney's imagioneering workshop.  Awesome...and a little creepy at the same time.  Wouldn't it be considered an android?

I wouldn't want a robotic servant that looked too human.  I would prefer a humanlike NDR series robot or a metamorph that could take on any utilitarian shape I want.  I actually want a HAL-9000 computer in my house that could regulate all household functions and interface with the robot also.  That would be awesome, but I worry about becoming too dependent on the machines.

Somehow I doubt any of us could afford a robotic lifelike facsimile at this point.  Laura was right; no robot could do what she does...or look so good doing it. Smiley

your right, replacing humans is not going to be easy in a home or job environment. but then again i bet nobody would have anything against a robot doing the vacuum cleaning like this one http://www.irobot.com/sp.cfm?pageid=122

also think about the auto industry where robots already do a great part of the whole manufacturing. of course they look more like a block with a movable mechanical arm, but thats also because nobody cares how they look like in that factory. think about yourself being 65 and having a robot bringing you tea to your couch, would you want it to look like nr.5 or like marisa miller?

anyway i would like terminators walking around the house like guard dogs while we are at fantasizing Smiley

Yep, China. I've also seen some GREAT robotics labs in London.
Wow that's some really unverving stuff Laura lol. I guess this thing will be common place one day to the point I can order myself a hottie in the image of you Smiley.
I saw this guy on Scot Rubin's lifecam. It was trippy.
