In an effort to discover the effectiveness of DNA scans, Microsoft has funded a research study, along with Scripps Translational Science Institute, Navigenics, and Affymetrix, which will attempt to answer that question. The study will involve up to 10,000 people who will receive scans of their genomes and then a detailed analysis of the results, including information about more than 20 health conditions that may be changed by lifestyle. Those conditions include diseases like diabetes, obesity, heart attacks, and cancer. Over the course of the next 20 years the behavior of those participants will be tracked. The private data for the participants involved will be stored in
HealthVault
