Emotiv Systems: We get a first glimpse at this revolutionary brain gaming peripheral

At GDC this year, Emotiv Systems unveiled a neural interface that was all the buzz. It was the hottest thing on the show floor and people were shocked. Remember when Force Feedback was cool? Emotive's technology is based upon interpreting the electrical activity in the human brain via EEG that looks below the individually unique outer cortex to deeper regions of the brain. You strap on an electrode studded headset that wirelessly interfaces with a receiver so thinking about making a decision in a video game actually makes it happen. This device really works and it blew me away. You have to check out this video!

OK kill him Lol cool, i heard about this product earlier, it obviously has uses at some point in the furure, it could well have many uses within the home as well.

I think this sort of technology is still very much in it's infancy but if they get some stong developers on side to develop a killa app, well it could be brilliant. I think a title like Second Sight is the perfect title to use this type of technology, that would be amazingly cool.

Lol, Tina you would have my vote, perhaps you could make sure by getting the nearest computer whizz at Microsoft to imput your resume onto the thee list, with a few notable additions, not that your resume is not comprehensive now, my you have done alot flick flick:), it's scary how much you have done already, you know i think you should work at Nintendo instead though.

Great feature, it will be interesting to see what comes of this, as well as other forms, it does seem like natural progression.

If you take into consideration the sucess of the Wii worldwide, you realise that people are indeed open to the idea of playing using different controllers and interfaces. I believe this sort of technology will eventually become common place, especially within the home setting at some point, but it will also be great to see within games also, perhaps it could be used in tandem with other controllers too, we will just have to wait and see. I wasn't sure what to make of this it at first, but I was seriously impressed by the idea. The actual footage didn't look all that promising. VR motion cameras do a better job of recognizing inputs then trying to interpret brainwaves...but this is a start. All the footage had participants physically gesturing with limited results, perhaps if I were to see someone sitting motionless manipulating the on-screen environment, I would be a little more enthusiastic about this.

The concept is brilliant, but the results are limited. Additionally, most games are already very sedentary experiences, should we really be looking to apply this kind of technology to games? I would rather we look into expanding physical activity in video gaming and apply brainwave technology to medical and educational research. Still, this was a really cool segment.

While I loved watching you try on the headset and think about promotions, I would have liked to watch you actually have a go with on-screen technology. Maybe there wasn't time or too much hair perhaps?

I don't see myself using this for video games, but I wan't one for my appliances and stuff.

I wake up, put on my headcrab and think Coffee, shower, food. By the time I finally get out of bed my coffee is ready, the shower is all warmed up and there's a delicious eggo in the toaster.

Also, I give it 3 years before Stephen Hawking pwns you in Halo 3 with this.
