This Week's Xbox Update with Tony Hynes!

Hi Tina and Channel 10 community!

I’m sorry I was unable to make it into the Channel 10 studio to give this week’s Xbox and Games for Windows Update. I decided to send in this recap of what’s happening this week.

Capcom just announced that Devil May Cry 4 is in development for Xbox 360 and the PC. The game will be released simultaneously for the PS3 and Xbox 360. The press release reports that each version of the game will be maximized to take advantage of the systems’ strengths.

From the press release:

"For those of you looking for a way to scratch that Oblivion itch, Bethesda will be launching Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion – The Shivering Isles. This will be the first expansion on the Xbox 360 to take advantage of the newly expanded allotment of Achievement Points per title. You’ll now be able to earn an additional 250 Gamerscore with Shivering Isles! The Shivering Isles launches on March 27^th."

Finally I wanted to make sure your readers knew that we just recently announced that Xbox LIVE is coming to Windows as Games for Windows – LIVE. We like to think of it as bringing the best online service to the biggest audience of gamers... and you’ll be able to get your hands on it May 8th when Halo 2 for Windows Vista hits store shelves. Metal Gear Solid and Final Fantasy are the only major third party franchises Microsoft doesn't have at this point. I really do wonder what the fallout for the PS3 is going to be if both land on the 360 because then the PS3 literally has nothing.

All I have to say is...ouch!! Sony is losing exclusivity all over the place.

Even though it has been rumored for a long time, I bet Konami will announce, sooner or later, MGS4 to be released on the 360 as well as the PS3.

This is EXACTLY what I was predicting would happen to Sony and PS3.

I am almost positive Sony is out of the running this console generation. I knew they were going to lose many of their exclusives, but I didn't think it was going to get this bad. As Ted said, all they have left is Metal Gear Solid and Final Fantasy...and Microsoft is in negotiations to acquire those now. Sony will have indeed hit rock bottom when they loose Final Fantasy.

Microsoft has certainly been flexing financial muscles behind the scenes. The 360 is making a big name for itself with great titles, but I would like to point out that it could work both ways.

I just picked up Oblivion for the PS3 and it's much improved over the 360 version with better graphics and faster load times. There are a few tweaks and extra features here and there as well. I loved Oblivion on the 360 a year ago, but a serious bug in the game prevented me from ever finishing it. The extra development time and more powerful hardware paid off in this case. What would happen if more 360 games got ported over to the PS3 if the install base improves? It could possibly turn the tide.

Rumors are rampant about the “360 Elite.” If such rumors turn out to be true I'll have to say that it damages the credibility of certain members of the 10 team who said no such console was in the works.
