Absolutely I would! You know, a "mere" 2 million dollars earning 5% interest means you could be living on $100,000 a year (pre-tax, of course). Plenty to do my travelling, have a few nice things, and maybe support a cause or start you on your next endeavor. And in the event that you receive much more than 2 million, well...you can do all 3 and more!

If I was the founder (or co-founder) of popular websites, such as: Youtube, MySpace, Ebay, Amazon.com, Napster, Wikipedia, etc. and I was offered a BIG sum of money to sell, I would ask:

"Cash, or check?"

As you mentioned, Google bought Youtube for over 1 billion. Anyone who would turn that offer down, would of course, be a total (to put it in nice words) "idiot".

Even if took me many years of blood, sweat and tears to get a company started, that would be a great "pay-off" (retirement) to a successful, entrepreneur "career", for sure=)

I would be like someone at the NYSE, yelling: "SELL! SELL!"

In one way, I wouldn't care what happens to my company, when it's out of my hands...

In another way, I would also have to say that I would like to sell my company to someone that I know won't destroy its "integrity." Surely, if your start-up company is successful and if you're giving it away, you must be proud of your accomplishment and care to give it a good, new home.

However, there's also the possibility that I could start-up a company and maybe cared for it so much, I might NEVER sell it...well, if it was a 1 billion dollar offer, I might re-consider=) More than likely, I'll probably just sell the company anyway and enjoy my "vacation."

Like everything else I do in life, I'd look at it long term. I would love to travel, be lazy...sport the rich life for a while, but I'd get bored and need to do something. Selling something that I had that was worth a lot of money could be a great way to re-invest that money in other ventures I might be interested in. Build up enough successful ventures and you could do just about anything you wanted. Personally, I would love to work on things I like to do/build whenever I want and go hang out on a beach or sleep in whenever I wanted to too. Selling something successful would definitely make that lifestyle easier to get.

Would you Sell? Perhaps.

Interesting and complicated topic, my goddess.

What would I sell and how much is it worth? There are some things that just can't be replaced with money and aren't worth selling. How much Happiness can money get you? Some of the wealthiest people in the world continue to work because they are driven by creative ego and it makes them happy. A great deal of my decision would depend on how attached I am to the material in question.

While I agree that it would be fantastic to retire early, travel the world...and sleep in (hell yeah!), I'm likely to get bored unless I'm traveling every so often or pursuing some other creative outlet. Eventually the money might run thin and it's nice to be able to leave something for family and friends, but that's just me. I go to school and work because it keeps me occupied, even if it isn't the most pleasant.

It would be wonderful to travel the world and sleep in everyday, though, especially with you.

Would I sell? Heck yes. I mean, yeah, there's always the potential that it'll be worth more later. But there comes a point where you have to just say enough's enough. I'm in a situation concerning selling an asset with my family right now. Half want to sell it, half don't. I'm clearly on the "sell" side. I understand the other side's argument, even if I don't agree with it. I think you have to get while the gettin's good. So, in short... sell, then retire, then travel the world.
