Microsoft struts their stuff at PAX

When you think of big gaming conventions I'm sure you conjure up visions of E3 and GDC. I'm here to tell you that from here on out you should include the Penny Arcade Expo to that list. It felt like home to wander through the dark halls and wait patiently for my turn to play BioShock. Here's a glimpse of what Microsoft was showing off this year.

Adventure Game vet Ron Gilbert to work on Penny Arcade Game

We're big Penny Arcade fans here at Channel 10 so the addition of Ron Gilbert to the game is really exciting. Here's part of the press release below.

"Hothead Games is pleased to announce that Ron Gilbert is working closely with the company on the development of its highly anticipated game title Penny Arcade Adventures: On the Rain-Slick Precipice of Darkness.

As the co-creator of the Monkey Island series, Gilbert was one of the foremost pioneers of the classic adventure genre. He created numerous critically acclaimed classics like Maniac Mansion and Zak McKracken before moving on to found Humongous Entertainment in 1992. Humongous released a number of successful titles under his leadership, including several produced under the company's subsidiary label Cavedog Entertainment.

"I have been a fan of Penny Arcade because I have always found their comic so funny and biting," said Gilbert. "When I first heard they were making a game and that they had chosen to weave adventure game elements into it, I knew immediately I wanted to be involved. Working with the Penny Arcade guys and the team at Hothead has been an absolute riot."

On the Rain-Slick Precipice of Darkness: Episode One is the first chapter of the planned episodic Penny Arcade Adventures game for Windows, Mac OS X, and Linux. The downloadable game will feature characters from Penny Arcade, including the well-known Gabe and Tycho. Hothead is working with the Penny Arcade creators and Gilbert in an intense collaborative development process".

GDC '07: Penny Arcade the Video Game!

Hothead Games and Penny Arcade teamed up to create the first ever videogame based on the much loved comic strip. The first game is entitled Penny Arcade Adventures: On the Rain-Slick Precipice of Darkness. The game will be released in episodic format, delivering new installments of the adventure to Penny Arcade fans every few months. I grabbed Jerry from Penny Arcade and Joel from HotHead games at GDC this year to get some more info about the game straight from the horses mouth :)

And if you've seen my last interview with Penny Arcade, sometimes getting a straight answer from these guys is not as easy as you'd imagine.

PAX Day 3: In-depth coverage from the Sampy Cam

While PAX has great games on display, awesome panels, and great speakers it's first and foremost about the fans. I took a camera into the crowds, the gaming rooms and even all the way out to the tabletop gaming to show you what it's like to be a fan at PAX. Pop open a bottle of BAWLS and hone your Smash Brothers and Halo 2 skills because this is PAX from a fans eye view.

PAX Part 2: More Gamers, Case Mods and Alex St. John

Ah the Penny Arcade Expo 2006, I remember it well... watching Alex St. John light up a cigar on stage, finding the best case mod in the world based on a sentient kitchen appliance, and watching other people play Guitar Hero. Sampy, Tina and I had so much fun at PAX that it couldn't fit into just one video (or two for that matter, more are on the way), check out today's video to hear from some of the gamers waiting to play in the console tournament, to hear some snippets of Alex's keynote talk and to view some cool custom cases.

In anticipation of PAX and just because we're fans, Laura and I headed over to Seattle to visit the guys behind Penny Arcade. Check out this video of Mike and Jerry and you'll see how funny they are even outside of their comic strip!
