Tafiti, the experimental search engine based on Silverlight, was updated recently and now offers more Windows Live Services integration. The update includes the use of presence and P2P messenger APIs that allow you to now share your search favorites with your IM buddies. To see this new feature in action, you'll need to sign into Tafiti with your Windows Live ID. If you're already signed into Messenger on your PC, you'll be signed out there and then signed into Messenger on tafiti.mslivelabs.com. Tafiti, which means "do research" in Swahili language, is a different search tool that we are not familiar with so much when you think about the alternatives. It uses Silverlight technology for visualization and Live Search as the underlying search technology. With a combination of these two important Technologies; tafiti gives a different user experience. If you haven’t used Tafiti, I recommend you to watch screencast that I recorded and try it yourself: www.tafiti.com

If you like the idea of getting Silverlight and Live Search together, I also recommend you to look Windows Live Quick Applications (beta) site and also you can download Tafiti code that is available now.

Rechtzeitig zu Xtopia (Deutsche ReMix) habe ich dieses Video über Silverlight zusammengeschnitten. Und für die Leute, die es nicht geschafft haben nach Berlin für Xtopia zu kommen, ist es vielleicht ein kleiner Trostpreis. ;-)

Meine Kollegen Oliver Scheer und Steffen Ritter haben einen Vortrag über Silverlight am Ende August gehalten. Danach habe ich ein kurzes Gespräch mit Steffen gehabt und Oliver hat mir 3 tolle Demos über Silverlight Airlines, Tafiti und Expression Media Encoder gezeigt. Weil ich so viel unterwegs im September war, habe ich erst diese Woche Zeit gehabt, um das Material zusammenzuschneiden und hochzuladen. Sorry aber besser spät als nie, oder?!?

A Microsoft disponibilizou hoje uma nova maneira de realizar pesquisas na Internet. O Microsoft Tafiti utiliza Windows Live Search como tecnologia de busca e adiciona uma interface em Silverlight, o que possibilita a interação inovadora em pesquisas pela Internet.

Uma vez que o usuário faça o seu log in, é possível organizar os diversos resultados de uma busca em uma coleção que abrange resultados da Web, de feeds RSS, de imagens, de livros e de notícias. Essas coleções podem ser salvas pelo usuário, podem ser postadas em blogs do Windows Live Spaces e também enviadas por e-mail.

About a week back I got an internal email asking us to kick the tires on a new Silverlight/search demo called Tafiti. Tafiti is a mashup that uses the resources of Windows Live Search driven by a Silverlight top layer. The result is a search experience unlike anything you've seen before.

Tafiti (which is the Swahili word for "do research") uses a desktop metaphor to search across media types and even filter your data result set multiple times. So try it out, see what you think, and let the Tafiti crew know if you'd like to see an open source version of Tafiti to play around with.
