X-Blades Anime Artwork Contest

Here's another chance for you artists to win a little extra cash and have your artwork noticed from an Xbox 360 and PC title

"X-Blades", the Anime Action Spectacular, really electrifies fans of Far Eastern artwork! At the beginning of the year, an artwork contest for the multi-platform game was hosted by the game's publishers, TopWare Interactive Inc. The central theme of the contest was the heroine Ayumi - and the feedback was so positive that TopWare just had to launch another contest for you artists out there!

All Ayumi illustrations received by 31st August will be judged by a jury of specialists - and the winner will receive 3,000 US Dollars, the second best picture will receive $2,000 and even the third-placed artist will get 1,000 dollars pocket money! PLUS, 20 game packages valued at 200 dollars each are also up for grabs!

The most creative illustrators among you will also get their share of fame... because the Royal Edition of "X-Blades" is equipped with a high-grade artbook - and your best entries will be added to the top-quality illustrations already in there - at 100 dollars additionally per illustration! .

With the release of the Windows SideShow Managed API SDK and the Windows SideShow for Windows Mobile Developer Preview, the Windows SideShow Team is encouraging developers to write some great gadgets by partnering up with NVIDIA to sponsor a gadget-writing contest. All finalists will get a trip to San Jose, CA in August for NVISION 2008 and one grand prize winner will receive a Dell XPS 420 SideShow-enabled desktop PC.

If you haven’t already heard, Windows SideShow is a new technology that lets Microsoft Windows send data to devices that could include, but aren’t limited to, mobile phones, digital picture frames, displays embedded in keyboards, front-panel computer displays, and displays attached to a laptop. Think you have a great idea for a gadget? Study up and get to work - the contest ends July 18, 2008.

Ultimate Video Relay Contest

The Windows Vista Ultimate team has partnered up with TriggerStreet to create one seriously awesome challenge. Their team of pro's (directed by Kyle Newman) has created a 5 minute video and now it's up to YOU to create the next five minutes. Right now, all you have to do is write a killer script- and if you're one of the winners you'll get all the tools you need to actually shoot it. You can see the first couple minutes of Kyle's movie here, and then head to their site to get started on your own.

Ultimate Video Relay Contest

There's an interesting contest going on now over at www.ultimatevideorelay.com. The idea is to finish a story that an award-winning director, Kyle Newman ("Fanboys" director), has started. Kyle shot the beginnings of a movie in a video called "Act I." Budding filmmakers are then encouraged to pick up the story and submit their scripts for Act 2. The contest community will then vote to determine which scripts will become finalists and those filmmakers will be presented with the equipment needed to make their film, including Sony HDR-SR11 camcorders, Falcon laptops, Windows Vista Ultimate, and Pinnacle editing software. Finalists' videos will then be voted on to determine the winner. The process will be repeated for a third act and then end result will be a three part film created by three different filmmakers. Attention Photogs: Cover Photo Contest

Microsoft is currently sponsoring a contest over at Professional Photographer magazine where the winner will get their work on the front cover of the mag, which has a subscription base of nearly 50,000. What a great way to get your work out into the photo community! Entries will be judged on technical, compositional, and artistic merit. There's no entry fee, but the entries must be in by May 31st. Nokia's Xbox Live Themes Contest

Nokia is sponsoring a contest for Xbox Live theme builders, which gives artists the opportunity to have their work offered through the Microsoft Xbox Live Marketplace. Xbox 360 themes let you change what you see on your screen in the Xbox Live Marketplace. Some Xbox 360 themes are free and some cost Microsoft Points to use. To get involved with the contest, artists can upload their work to www.my360theme.com, where the themes will then go through an internal quality review process before the public gets to vote on them. Along with having a theme published, the winner will also receive a 42-inch HDTV, surround sound stereo, Xbox 360 games, Blu-ray player, and Nokia N81 phone.

Live@edu Mashup Contest

To raise awareness for Microsoft's Live@edu, Microsoft is holding a contest among student software developers to see who can design the best application for Windows Live. You can check out some sample apps on the dev.live.com/mashups pages, which include some already created mashups like 3D Geology Maps, a meta search engine, a crisis "hotspot" map, and so much more. To get involved, go to http://www.campusmashups.com. The judging will be 25% public opinion (so get your friends to vote!), 25% usage of Windows Live Tools, and 50% creativity and utility of the application. One grand prize winner will receive $10,000.00 in cash! Two runners up receive $2500/each and two third place winners receive an Xbox 360 Halo 3 prize pack ($500 value). This makes me wish I was a student...and a developer!
