Which motherboard should you buy? Where do you get the sweetest case mods? How will you decide which speakers are best for you??? These decisions can be quite daunting without the help of TechWare Labs. Ok, yes- there are tons of different product review sites out there but these guys really approach their editorials with passion and humor. It's a fun site to click around on and they are a REALLY fun group of journalists. I sat down with the team to find out why I should listen to them, how they got such a sweet gig and, of course, do they get to keep the stuff???

An influx of praise for Vista and Office

In rebuttal to an article for the same magazine, Dan Warne has written his 10 reasons to get Vista for APC. Dan points out how Vista has been built with digital media in mind, as well as the advantages of full desktop search and DirectX 10.

On the Office front, the extensive work done to make the ribbon a reality has not gone unnoticed. David Pogue praises Office 2007 for The New York Times, despite his relatively obvious Apple bias. David focuses on how the ribbon unearths the functionality of each application, making it more accessible. He also tips his hat to the product teams for putting Office on a feature and file-size diet.

With the release of Vista only days away, the positive reaction seems to only get louder. We can only imagine how much more feedback we'll get next month as systems all over the planet get upgraded. We're looking forward to hearing from all of you!

Yelp provides local reviews by and for the people

Sometimes it takes relocating half a thousand miles away to get perspective on how useful some web tools are. Joining team 10 can mean having to give up that beloved home field advantage and all of the local haunts we’re so used to, well…haunting. Where are the best burritos? What’s the best place to hustle play pool? Which barbers actually do what you want?

The kids at Yelp have spent the past two years building a website is giving the power of review back to the people. Instead of being fed highly-edited opinions from a narrow selection of professional critics, Yelp’s data is made by anyone who feels compelled to contribute. There are a number of upsides to this approach. First, because someone has either got to love or hate something in order to be compelled to write about it, there aren’t many middle-of-the-road reviews that don’t help us come to a decision. Second, the site enables readers and reviewers to communicate directly, which creates a social network derived from more than a list of our favorite CDs.

So go forth and Yelp about something already!
