Zumobi 1.1 for Windows Mobile Released

Have you seen Zumobi? This new Windows Mobile application offers a completely unique way to browse the mobile web in format that’s ideal for the small screens of our mobile devices. Instead of traditional browsing via links and clicking, Zumobi displays a widget with tiles (small squares) representing your favorite web sites. To “browse” these sites, you zoom in on them – much easier than typing in a URL. From the application’s configuration menu, you can manage the tiles you want displayed – pulling from categories like humor, finance, news, kids, games, sports, weather, entertainment, and more, but one of the new additions in Zumobi’s latest release is a pretty awesome tool that lets you make your own tiles. Called the “Tile Wizard,” you can customize a tile’s look-and-feel while pulling in content from any RSS feed. These user-generated tiles can also be shared with your friends, just like any tile added from the Gallery. Want to get Zumobi on your Windows Mobile phone? MIX08 is a web technology conference where developers, designers and business professionals can engage in a conversation about new technologies, commerce, media, content, services, and security. In its third year, this year's conference will be held March 5-7 at the Venetian in Las Vegas. Cooliris browser extensions save precious clicks

It should be no surprise to those of you playing along at home that there's far too much information on the net, and thus anything that helps us move more quickly is a welcome addition to our digital lives.

Cooliris has developed a set of browser extensions that, "give you the power to quickly preview the underlying content of links without clicking." Naturally we were happy to install their code and we've been thoroughly impressed with the experience thus far (peeking beyond a hyperlink is quite the timesaver). Perhaps this team has been mentored by the old Palm tap-counter?

Sometimes it takes relocating half a thousand miles away to get perspective on how useful some web tools are. Joining team 10 can mean having to give up that beloved home field advantage and all of the local haunts we’re so used to, well…haunting. Where are the best burritos? What’s the best place to hustle play pool? Which barbers actually do what you want?

The kids at Yelp have spent the past two years building a website is giving the power of review back to the people. Instead of being fed highly-edited opinions from a narrow selection of professional critics, Yelp’s data is made by anyone who feels compelled to contribute. There are a number of upsides to this approach. First, because someone has either got to love or hate something in order to be compelled to write about it, there aren’t many middle-of-the-road reviews that don’t help us come to a decision. Second, the site enables readers and reviewers to communicate directly, which creates a social network derived from more than a list of our favorite CDs.

So go forth and Yelp about something already!
