Windows Live Messenger and Live Mail Come To Blackberry

Got a Blackberry? Then you will love this: Windows Live Messenger is now available for Blackberry smartphones. Now, I was able to sign into WLM on my Blackberry via a pre-installed “IM” app that let me sign into any one of a number of IM services, but there are some advantages to using the new WLM app. With the new app, you can join group chats, set your status message and see others’ statuses, save conversations, use an avatar and see others’ avatars, send and received pictures and files, and gain access to over 60 emoticons. Guess what? I’m switching to this!

Along with the news about Windows Live Messenger, the other big news is Windows Live Mail’s arrival on Blackberry, too. The application will use the Blackberry’s “push” technology to deliver its messages and will set up a dedicated inbox just for Live Mail. You will also be able to see HTML email with the ability to view graphics, links, and contact photos in your email. To use either of these services, you only need to sign in once with your Windows Live ID information.

i'm Making a Difference - Now in Your Email, Too!

You've heard about the i'm initiative before - it's the charitable movement that allows you to donate to your favorite causes just by using IM. Now, you can participate in both Windows Live Messenger or Hotmail or both. You can choose to support the same organization in both places or pick a different one for each service. To get started, go to http://im.live.com to join. This program is currently available only in the U.S. and benefits organizations like the American Red Cross, Boys & Girls Clubs of America, the National AIDS Fund, National Multiple Sclerosis Society, ninemillion.org, Sierra Club, StopGlobalWarming.org, Susan G. Upgrade your Windows Live Services

Last week, Windows Live Services software was released and upgraded. If you had betas installed, or just earlier versions of the products, you can upgrade them to the latest and greatest in a few simple clicks. Check out the Windows Live Services page here for the link:

Ever since we came out with live.com I have been a huge fan of the domain name. You say "Google it" I say "Live it!" To each his own.

Either way, for a long time I have been asking the product teams to use username@live.com instead of user@hotmail.com as my email address... and today they have delivered! Starting right now you can go here and register a name, like clownmember.f4r7@live.com.

Use Windows Live Mail as an RSS Reader

It may come as a surprise to you, but there is a free, built-in RSS reader in Windows Vista. Haven't noticed it yet? It's the feed reader that's available in Vista's Windows Live Mail. Windows Live Mail utilizes the Internet Explorer 7 RSS feed store in Windows Vista. The Windows RSS platform takes this "Common Feed List" and intergrates it into Windows Live Mail. This means that any feed you subscribe to in IE7 automatically appears in your Windows Live Mail, too. The feeds are displayed in a separate tab in Windows Live Mail, which makes it easy to switch between your feeds and your email. Since your feeds are in Live Mail, you can take advantage of the "Search Folders" technology to make custom folders for your feeds like "Flagged Feeds," "Unread Feeds," etc. Non-Vista users can get Windows Live Mail here. Sign Into Hotmail With One Click

Did you know that you can sign into Hotmail with just one click? Neither did I, until I saw this post on Windows Live Chronicles blog. Here's how it works:

Install the "Windows Live Sign In Assistant." Currently, this comes with Windows Live Messenger if you check the option to "Install Windows Live Sign-in Assistant."
Go to http://mail.live.com instead of http://www.hotmail.com
Check "Remember on this computer", and "Remember my password," then click "Login."
Repeat process if you have more than one account. (For details on those steps, see their blog post.)
From now on, you can access your mailbox from mail.live.com with one click!
